Hike in electricity duty will be final death blow to Punjab Industry : Kewal Singh Dhillon

Punjab government must review the decision of electricity duty hike : Kewal Singh Dhillon
Industry in Punjab is worst hit by wrong policies of Akali-BJP government. The recent hike in electricity duty from 10 percent to 13 percent is final death blow to Punjab industry . This hike has made power in Punjab the one of most expensive in India. Such decisions of state will force the Punjab’s industry to shut down their factories and move to other states. In Punjab each unit of power to industry was now costing Rs. 5.28 per unit as compared to low prices of neighboring states like Rs. 3.61 per unit in Himanchal Pardesh and Rs. 3.65 per unit in Uttrakhand. These views were expressed by Barnala MLA and Vice President of Punjab Congress S. Kewal Singh Dhillon in a press release here today. Reacting to hike during previous congress regime , Mr. Dhillon stated that realization of hike at that time was meant for various welfare schemes like Old age pension and widow pension and that hike was not permanent , it was to rollback when ever state’s financial position improves.
He further stated that Punjab is a agro based state. Its agricultural produces needs processing industry . Farmers of state can yields maximum prices for their agricultural produces. As you are aware that industry is back-bone of any economy specially the dire need of Punjab state. In today’s world of globalization , whole world is behaving like a small global village. There is cut throat competition in countries and states to set up industry. The only that country or state is successful who has adopted policies of liberalization and helping attitude of creating a atmosphere for smooth operating of industry. Punjab government is lagging far behind in adopting such policies. Punjab government’s claim regarding setting up of Single Window System have no end results. No such window is there in practical. Punjab’s industry is worst hit by Babu-dom and red-tape-ism. No department is ready to delegates its powers to a single window system . So end results of all these irregularities is to bore by innocent people of Punjab state. No state without industry can be prosperous. The bad evil like un-employment is controlled largely by State industry. Punjab government has totally failed to give a suitable industrial environment to State’s industry . We can learn a lesson from our neighboring state Haryana. By providing a suitable industrial environment to State’s industry Haryana is touching new heights in terms of prosperity. Punjab should also follow that path.

Punjab state government’s recent decision of electricity duty hike will create a blockade for new investments and will also pressurize the existing industrial houses to migrate to other states. So the state government must review this decision of price hike and immediately give a relief to Punjab’s industry.
